The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) is seeking views on draft revised standards of education and training (SETs) and supporting guidance.

The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) is seeking views on draft revised standards of education and training (SETs) and supporting guidance.

The SETs are our requirements for the policies and processes that pre-registration education and training programmes must have in place in order to be approved by us. They are set at the threshold level to ensure that all learners who complete an approved programme are able to meet the standards of proficiency for their profession and are eligible for registration with us.

We produce supporting guidance to accompany the SETs and assist education providers in understanding our requirements and expectations.

The SETs and supporting guidance were last published in 2009. Beginning in 2014, we conducted a large scale review of these documents to check that they were still up to date, effective and applicable across all professions and types of education and training programmes. We are now seeking feedback on the changes we have proposed to the SETs and supporting guidance as a result of the review.

We have launched a public consultation, which will run for 12 weeks. This consultation will be of interest to a wide range of stakeholders: education providers, practice educators, registrants, professional bodies, students, HCPC visitors, and service users and carers involved in education and training.

You can read the consultation document and proposed changes to the guidance here.

The closing date for responses is Friday 25 November 2016. We look forward to receiving your feedback.
