Social Worker, Owen William Lewis, Struck Off for Multiple Failings

A panel of the HCPC Conduct and Competence Committee heard that Mr Lewis’ responsibilities included children who were designated children in need and those subject to child protection plans. Concerns arose following his conduct of those cases including his failure to make required visits and failing to complete assessments in a timely manner.

The Panel further heard that Owen William Lewis attended a family visit without an interpreter which resulted with a child of the family having to interpret sensitive matters relating to violence against his mother.

Panel Chair Jennifer Rogers commented

“The Panel found Mr Lewis failings to be persistent. They took place over several years and he did not respond to management interventions and support. The Panel found that his actions had the potential to place service users at risk and enhance their disadvantage.”

The Panel instructed the name of Owen William Lewis to be struck off the Register with an interim order imposed to cover the appeal period.

Owen William Lewis was present and represented by Mr Mick Barraclough of Unison at the hearing.
