Operating department practitioner Shaun Gilbert has been struck off the HCPC Register on grounds of misconduct whilst employed with Care UK at St Mary’s NHS Treatment Centre.
A panel of the HCPC Conduct and Competence Committee heard that Mr Gilbert administered Patient A and Patient B with a higher dosage of Tramadol than had been prescribed. Mr Gilbert then failed to report the incidents to a Manager.
The Panel further heard oral evidence from Mr Gilbert’s Line Manager in relation to the allegation that he had used inappropriate and / or offensive language, and heard that he used swear words towards her on two occasions.
Panel Chair Judith Walker commented:
“Mr Gilbert minimised the seriousness of the drugs error and there is nothing to indicate that he will alter this stance. There was nothing in his representations that gave any confidence that insight may develop or that remedial steps would be taken.
He had denied using inappropriate or offensive language towards his line manager. This has been proved against him. Accordingly, Mr Gilbert has not shown that he has taken responsibility, reflected or taken any steps to remedy this issue.”
The Panel concluded to strike the name of Mr Shaun Gilbert from the HCPC Register with an interim order to cover the appeal period.
Mr Shaun Gilbert was not present nor represented at the hearing.
