Operating department practitioner struck off on grounds of misconduct
Neil Bamsey (ODP12042) has been struck off the HCPC Register on the grounds of misconduct whilst employed as an operating department practitioner with Heart of England NHS Trust.
A panel of the HCPC Conduct and Competence Committee heard that Mr Bamsey engaged in an inappropriate relationship with Patient X, a patient of the mental health department who had attended for a minor procedure. On this occasion Mr Bamsey gave Patient X his telephone number, met up with her the next day and took her to a disused RSU theatre at the Good Hope Hospital and engaged in sexual intercourse with her.
The Panel further heard Mr Bamsey engaged in sexual relations with Patient X again on unknown dates over a three month period. He also influenced her to give an account of the relationship which was not true.
Panel Chair Graham Aitken commented:
“The Panel further considered that there was a serious risk that if Mr Bamsey was in a similar position in the future he would repeat his conduct. The Panel has seen nothing to suggest that he has addressed the character failings that led to the facts as found by the Panel. Moreover the sexual relations initiated by Mr Bamsey continued over several months; they were opportunistic and abusive in character.”
The Panel ordered for the name of Neil Bamsey to be struck off the HCPC Register.
Mr Bamsey was neither present nor represented at the hearing.
