A panel of the HCPTS heard that Mrs Newnes was originally suspended for six months on the grounds of misconduct whilst employed as a social worker with Gloucestershire County Council.

The Panel further heard that Mrs Newnes’ failings included attending work whilst under the influence of alcohol and accepting a caution for battery, which she did not promptly declare to her employer or the HCPC.

Panel Chair Deborah Baldwin commented:

“This Panel has no doubt that the fitness to practise of Mrs Newnes remains impaired. There is no sign of any form of insight, no evidence of remediation, and nothing to suggest that the risk of repetition of her misconduct is anything other than high.”

The Panel ordered for the name of Serena Odette Newnes to be struck off the HCPC Register.

Mrs Newnes was neither present nor represented at the hearing.
