A panel of the HCPTS heard that Mr Anderson was originally suspended for three months on the grounds of misdemeanor whilst employed as a social worker with Birmingham City Council.

The Panel further heard that Mr Anderson’s failings included not taking sufficient steps to safeguard children, including failing to act adequately upon receipt of information that two children may be at risk of harm through contact with a Schedule 1 Sex Offender. He also failed to respond appropriately when he was made aware that a further child had been sexually abused.

An initial suspension order was imposed, and was since reviewed and carried a further 5 times. At this substantive review the Panel ordered for the name of Robert M Anderson to be struck off the HCPC Register.

Panel Chair Graham Aitken commented:

“Mr Anderson has not managed to remediate his failings or demonstrate sufficient insight, despite being provided with many years in which to do so. Accordingly this order was necessary to protect the public and was otherwise in the public interest to maintain public confidence in the profession and declare and uphold proper standards of conduct and behaviour.”

Mr Anderson was neither present nor represented at the hearing.
