Social Worker Struck Off following Conviction for Offences Linked to Child Neglect

Social worker Sylvia Dando has been struck off the HCPC Register following a conviction for criminal offences linked to child neglect.

A panel of the HCPC Conduct and Competence Committee heard that Mrs Dando commenced employment at Staffordshire County Council on 2 January 2014 as a newly qualified social worker with a fostering team based in Lichfield. Shortly after, on 16 April 2014, Mrs Dando submitted her resignation.

The Panel further heard that in late 2014 the police arrested and bailed Mrs Dando in respect of offences linked to child neglect. On 4 November 2014 she was convicted of cruelty to a person under 16 years of age at Wolverhampton Crown Court. She was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment suspended for 24 months, and supervision for 24 months.
