Paramedic Struck Off for Offensive Facebook Posts

Paramedic Roy Guest has been struck off the HCPC Register for misconduct for making offensive and derogatory Facebook posts about patients and the public.

This was a second review of a 12 month suspension order from 12 May 2014. The registrant neither attended nor submitted documents to the first review of that order on 1 May 2015, therefore the Panel extended that suspension order for three months.

A panel of the HCPC Conduct and Competence Committee heard Mr Guest was employed on the clinical support desk at West Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust when in February 2013, BBC Radio Stoke alerted the Trust that the Registrant had posted offensive and derogatory comments on Facebook.

The Panel further heard that the comments related to a founder member of the Group, Cure the NHS, which was instrumental in pushing for an enquiry into care standards at Stafford District Hospital. One comment expressed a hope that the group member would suffer a late-night life-threatening illness and mentioned the impact of travelling further for treatment because of the hospital
