Social Worker Struck Off Following Conviction for Fraud and Obtaining/Disclosing Personal Data

Social worker Gwen Sharon Thomas has been struck off the HCPC Register further to a removal order imposed on her by the Care Council for Wales (CCW) Fitness to Practise Committee. This removal order followed a conviction in relation to offences of fraud and obtaining/disclosing personal data.

A panel of the HCPC Conduct and Competence Committee heard that the CCW made a referral to the HCPC when Ms Thomas became subject to an interim suspension order imposed on 28 October 2014. This was as a result of Ms Thomas being on police bail for theft from a service user, fraud and breach of data protection.

The Panel further heard that Ms Thomas was subsequently convicted and on 25 February 2015 was sentenced to 16 months imprisonment suspended for two years, with a curfew and financial penalties of
