Operating department practitioner Laval Robert Antoine has been struck off the HCPC Register on grounds of misconduct following inappropriate behaviour towards colleagues whilst employed at The Royal London Hospital.
A panel of the HCPC Conduct and Competence Committee heard that concerns were first raised when a student nurse, on a placement with the hospital, disclosed that Mr Antoine had made inappropriate comments, and had made unwanted physical contact with her.
The Panel further heard that a total of four student nurses subsequently submitted formal written statements about Mr Antoine’s conduct after they were questioned about their own experiences with him. These matters were then referred to the HCPC.
Panel Chair Manuela Grayson commented:
“Mr Antoine’s conduct was unwanted, persistent and unwarranted towards more than one student nurse. He was in a position of seniority, in relation to them, in the workplace and he knew they would be on their placements for short periods of time. Given this context, the student nurses were vulnerable and he took advantage of the vulnerability
He has disengaged from the process and has not provided any evidence of insight or remorse. The Panel has determined that there is a significant risk of repetition of his misconduct.”
The Panel concluded to strike the name of Mr Laval Robert Antoine from the Register.
Mr Laval Robert Antoine was neither present nor represented at the hearing.
