Social Worker, Karen Claire Tranter, Struck Off Following Substantive Review of Suspension

Social worker Karen Claire Tranter has been struck off the HCPC Register following a review of a twelve month suspension order imposed at a Final Hearing in September 2015 on grounds of misconduct whilst employed by Gloucestershire County Council (The Council).

HCPC - Health and Care Professions Council - Karen Claire Tranter

A panel of the HCPC Conduct and Competence Committee heard that Ms Tranter was originally suspended for accessing the files of Service User A and Foster Carer B in a non-professional capacity. Ms Tranter also asked Colleague A not to record an email which she sent requesting confidential information relating to Service User A.

The Panel further heard that during the investigation into the above matters, she failed to ensure the safe collection of property belonging to the Council, a SIM card which contained confidential data.

Panel Chair Lesley White commented:

“In the absence of any up to date information as to what Ms Tranter has been doing since the hearing in September 2015, this Panel was unable to reach any conclusion other than that nothing has changed since then and her fitness to practise remains impaired.”

The Panel concluded that the only appropriate a proportionate sanction in this case was a striking off order.

The Panel directed the name of Ms Karen Claire Tranter to be removed from the HCPC Register from the date the order comes into effect, 6 October 2016.

Ms Karen Claire Tranter was not present nor represented at the hearing.
